TIP #1
Check where you are headed before you are lost even further: pull-over and check your map; if you end up in the highway, take the first exist. Just make sure you don't end up in the highway again!

Disregard the suggestion of one who seems to know nothing about how to read maps! (seriously)
TIP #3
Make sure your gas tank is reasonably full especially if you have a long drive and are prone to be lost.
PS: Please avoid BLACK-HOLES!!
